The art of science

Wow, I've just stumbled across the exellent Genome News Network which if full of intersting news and information. The thing that really struck me though was the art gallery:

A spider extrudes proteins from its silk glands. It has been estimated that if the silk created by combining the fibres those proteins make (shown in green) was enlarged to the thickness of a pencil it would be capable of stopping a Boeing 747 in its tracks. There's a collection of other artisitic images that result from scientific investigations as well as art inspired by scientific understandings of our world.
